Picture this: It´s another Friday evening, you´ve barely managed to eek through a hard week, and the coming week doesn´t look any better. You just have to be something different this weekend – away from the usual.
You probably have three choices in front of you:
(a) Call up Charu or Vikki and check what they´re up to;
(b) Hunt for the newspaper, gleaning them for ideas; or
(c) Head to your favourite haunt.
If it is (a), the 2 or 3 of you together will most likely land up pursuing (b) or (c).
The hunt for (b), if successful (newspapers have a way of disappearing, especially the pages that are of interest), will result in tons of movie listings, or coverage of events that you probably knew of already – big stars, classy musicians, golf tournaments, art exhibitions – and didn´t want to attend or were too pricey for the weekend spirit.
So, to pep up your mood, you will gladly take option (c) and head to the movie theatre showing a 1-star rated movie, or a restaurant / bar to tank-up, surf the Internet through all your online social networks; or stare at the idiot box, remote in hand, feeling all powerful with the new sense of control.
Reality smacked us in the face when we learnt, surprisingly, that we were not alone. Many around us were also tired of picking (c) all the time... We realized we´d hit rock bottom when someone in the group suggested that (c) and (a) should change places, so that we would not feel like absolute losers! They say that inspiration usually hits when you are scraping bottom. It did to us – enlightenment struck.
Scroll through 11 months of hard work, numerous investors, formal trial balloons, meetings and public appearances, and we present our premier offering to you: Buzzintown – The one-stop-shop for all information related to events and happenings – musicals, plays, book reads, concerts, sports, live bands, exhibitions and expos, and, very importantly, those that are personal/social in nature.
Most media (print, radio, TV), for lack of space or time, tend to focus on topics that are big, and will catch peoples attention. For events, coverage revolves around the Shakira or Jagjit Singh concerts; Pt. Hariprasad or Ustad Zakir´s recitals; Rajnikant or SRK´s release; a Consumer expo or a Booker award winning author. Period. Buzzintown will incorporate these events too (their information is easy to get), but our stress will be on the long tail of events – those that are not likely to get any media coverage. We know for a fact that they are good quality “happenings”, with artists that have a local and regional presence, but their achievements are not big enough. We want to put such events before you – let you be the decision maker. We may even introduce a small video clip or audio track so that you can make a more informed call. Who knows, instead of that long drive to the movie theatre, you may like to be a part of their jammin´ sessions, or may want to check them out because they´re performing at a place close by, known for its kathi rolls & juicy tikkas!
We realize that our success is based on the richness of this content in Buzzintown – data has a shelf life, and we need to employ innovative usages of technology to reach everyone. You will experience this entrepreneurial approach in the quality of our designs and graphics, our navigation and hidden technical architecture, and the freshness of our information. To gather this long tail, we have spread our network of partners across India, creating formal relationships with hundreds of venues, artists and event management companies where events catering to all kinds of interest are being held.
YOU are at the helm of affairs in Buzzintown. You tell us about events in your area/locality/social interactions. You decide who you want to see on the site. You introduce yourself and get profiled as an artist on the site so that other people can see you too.
We believe that online social networking is slowly loosing its coolness... so while we eHang-out with the trendiest, friendliest, hippest, and smartest on the web, the New York Times cartoon ticks in our mind – “On the Internet, no one knows you are a dog!” For Buzzintown, an event or happening materializes when we are in the physical company of our buddies. So while we too promote the “community” concept, we want friends / relationships on the ground to move online, where we share an online network with togetherness in the offline/physical space.
The motive is clear, and we hope to get your continued participation so that we can deliver with flawless execution.
